Location & self-sufficiency
In the natural and stagnant aquatic environment, we often find plants, small aquatic snails and fishes. By inserting all of these in a wisely located trap designed for that purpose, alchemy is doing really well and the trap may last for years without changing water or feeding fishes. To make it possible, the trap should be installed after much thought.
It has to be absolutely located away from the sun and strong winds, in a cool place, under vegetation so that plants’ rubbish as dead leaves and twigs regularly supplies the organic mass, fishes and snails.
Located at the heart of vegetation, great many insects as ants and flies (such as Chironomids) fall into the trap; that way, small-sized fishes have always something to eat if there are no mosquitos’ grubs.
This is why the trap is equipped with an anti-drowning system for young birds, lizards and so on…
Presence of aquatic snails in traps
Snails are not absolutely necessary but their presence is not inconsiderable because the balance of the pond is more natural and its self-sufficiency is easier.
Tropical fish aquarists know well about small aquatic snails. They eat plants that fall in the trap; a part of their eggs, considered as proteins, are eaten by fishes.
